Erykah Badu Drops 'But You Caint Use My Phone' Mixtape With Drake & Ex Andre 3000

After setting a Thanksgiving release date, Erykah Badu dropped her But You Caint Use My Phone mixtape this past Friday (Nov. 27); with it appearing on iTunes around midnight. But You Caint Use My Phone features a remix of Drake's "Hotline Bling," retitled as "Cel U Lar Device," an original entitled "Phone Down" and a cover of the 1984 era "Mr. Telephone Man" by New Edition and "U Use To Call Me," which is rapped by Drake. Her ex and the father of her son, Andre 3000, even makes an appearance on "Hello," not to be confused with Adele's version.

But You Caint Use My Phone is Badu's first project since 2010 when she released New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh) according to Billboard. Her latest is exclusively available on both iTunes and Apple Music for a single week until it is available to digital retailers and streaming services Dec. 4.

Pitchfork reported that the mixtape title references a lyric from Badu's 1997 hit "Tyrone." In a press release it was written that, "each song makes reference to telephones and our own reliance on staying interconnected."

This past October, Badu shared her Drake remix in anticipation of the album, titling it "HOTLINE BLING BUT U CAINT USE MY PHONE MIX," on Soundcloud. The original was co-penned by Seven Benjamin, Badu and Andre 3000's son, and reappeared on the mixtape under the title "Cell U Lar Device."

Tomorrow, Badu is slated to host the Soul Train Awards and fans are already prepared to be exposed to the singer's unpredictable nature. The awards ceremony was taped on Nov. 6 and will air Nov. 28 at 8 p.m. on Centric and BET.
