The controversial title track to Lily Allen's forthcoming Sheezus has surfaced online; however, it doesn't appear to be an official release.
Allen spoke about the track, which name drops pop royalty such as Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Lorde and Rihanna, in a recent interview with Rolling Stone.
"I don't like being compared to other people because I'm quite aware that there are people who are far more talented and have better singing voices than me," she told them. "I don't like being put in the same category as people because we have the same genitals and boobs."
But don't misinterpret her name-checking as shot-taking.
"It's completely the opposite of that," she explained. "I'm saying that I want all of them to be Sheezus, and I want to be Sheezus too. And if [Lady Gaga is] not succeeding commercially because she's standing by what she does as art, then that's a f**king great thing. That's to be commended. That's what makes a martyr. There's nothing wrong with that."
As far as the track being banned from the radio, Allen thinks having the word "period" in the song made people uncomfortable. "[Period] is really offensive to people, even though half the world has to deal with it once a month."
But she encouraged rather than discouraged by people's reaction. "It's groundbreaking! I'm proud of that. It's f**king awesome. I think that 'period' is going to be my 'surfboard' with Beyoncé. People will wear sweatshirts to my concerts that are just going to say 'period.'"
