Eithne Ni Bhraonain, better known simply as Enya, recently released her eighth studio album, Dark Sky Island, and now the Irish singer-songwriter has shared a video for "Echoes in the Rain." The artist had shared a lyric video for the same track ahead of the full album release, but she goes full-orchestra in the official video, which you can watch below.
The album marks Enya's return since 2008's Christmas-themed And Winter Came. The new album is available to stream on Spotify and to download via iTunes.
Leading up to the new album's release, the artist told several sources that although she has never played a live solo concert in her now decades-long career, fans may finally get the opportunity to see the singer take the stage. "Performing is something I enjoy," she told Billboard. "The way we put an album together is very much a performance feel. We're trying to capture that live performance and that's why I know it would work on stage, and I would love to perform it."
That positive attitude regarding live performances begs the question: why hasn't Enya toured in the past? The artist told Billboard that the problem has always been a lack of time. Since she became famous in 1988, the artist's cycle of meticulously crafting an album in the studio then disappearing from the public's eye for awhile, then delving back into the studio, and so on without anything other than a few TV performances in-between has yet to be broken. However, she explained to BBC that the pattern of never-touring only began because back in the late '80s it "really wouldn't have been possible" to replicate most of her songs due to the complexity of her multi-layered vocal arrangements. Now, however, "it is very, very possible" to recreate her signature sound that has thus far been relegated to the studio and fans' speakers because there are more opportunities now than ever before to incorporate orchestras and choirs.
Dark Sky Island dropped at the same time as Adele's 25 and debuted at the top of the charts, coming in at number 8 on Billboard's "Top 200" with 47,700 units sold, Reuters reports. Between Adele's record-breaking first week and artists like Justin Bieber and One Direction continuing to dominate the top of the sales charts, Enya's comeback album is notably holding its own.
