House music pioneer Marshall Jefferson is turning to the internet for help in putting out his new album. The producer and DJ known for his 1980s house songs on the legendary label Trax is looking to put out his first album in 20 years and wants to do it right with a special vinyl pressing. He is turning to a kickstarter campaign that will hopefully raise the funds for him.
In an accompanying video, Jefferson explains why he is using Kickstarter to raise a goal of $10,000 to help press his new album with Sleezy D, the house music moniker that has not been heard from since the 1986 track "I've Lost Control." According to Jefferson, Sleezy "is the living embodiment of the life of the party" and "dances from the first song to the last."
The 23-track LP is already recorded and could be released today as a digital download, however the "Move Your Body" DJ wants to put it out in a proper way. The LP has guest appearances from the likes of Tyree Cooper, David Tort, Full Intention, Rhythm Masters, who apparently have some of the best songs on the LP and more. The goal of the $10,000 is to ""press a triple album, maybe even a quadruple album on vinyl, with great album art and a story."
Jefferson says that if he exceeds his goal of $10,000, he will use the excess money towards mixing and mastering costs, promotion and videos.
Watch the video below to get more details on what he plans to do and head to his kickstarter campaign to support the legend. This would be the first album from Jefferson since 1996's Day Of The Onion.
