Emerson String Quartet Performs Shostakovich and Britten at Alice Tully Hall for Lincoln Center's Great Performer Series

Like they needed their own subcategory to denominate strictly "Great Performers," but Lincoln Center, as a part of the Great Performer series, will present the formidable Emerson String Quartet.

Emerson continues their exploration of the late quartets of Shostakovich, who is surely one of the masters of the 20th-century form.

Interestingly enough, Emerson's program will pair Shostakovich's 13th and 14th quartets with the third one of Benjamin Britten.

As Lincoln Center notes:

The wisdom of age delivers clarity within complexity, offering a brilliance that is reflected through the vitality of new interpreters. The recently reconfigured Emerson String Quartet brings its newfound "boyish exuberance" (New York Times) to the late quartets of Dmitri Shostakovich, coupled in this series with the final quartets of Mendelssohn, Britten and Schubert.
