2015 is coming to a close, and you know what that means: DJ Earworm's "United States of Pop" series is back. To tie in to the giant phenomenon that was the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack, the prolific mashup artist pumped up the volume by mashing up 50 of the year's biggest songs, including cuts by Drake, Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Adele, The Weeknd, One Direction, Ed Sheeran and pretty much every other major player in pop.
Subtitled "50 Shades of Pop," as always, the "United States of Pop" is an optimistic-sounding glitzy mashup of everything that made popular music popular in the last 12 years. Blending together everything from Silento's "Watch Me" to Rachel Platten's "Fight Song" to Maroon 5's "Sugar" and everything in between, "50 Shades of Pop" is a blend of everything that helped to define the musical pop culture lexicon in 2015.
Pumping the number of songs up from 25 to 50 in his latest remix helped to make the list feel all encompassing. Adele's last 2015 release "Hello" gets a prominent placement in the song right next to this year's early dominating hit "Uptown Funk" by Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars. Nearly every genre is represented, with Fetty Wap, Drake and Big Sean ruling rap, Rihanna and Drake reppin' R&B, Ariana Grande, Bieber and Fifth Harmony bringing the pop and there's even plenty of EDM courtesy of a heavy feature from Major Lazer's "Lean On."
And, of course, tying in to the name of this year's remix, "50 Shades of Pop" wouldn't be complete without Elle Goudling's "Love Me Like You Do" and The Weeknd's "Earned It."
