For her latest cover endeavor, Evanescence vocalist Amy Lee decided to tackle Led Zeppelin staple "Going to California," a tune that hits home for the family-centered singer.
The track comes to fans paired with a black and white video, which shows Lee singing the Zeppelin classic out in the wilderness as its juxtaposed with her singing in the studio. Jordan Berliant, friend and manager of the "Bring Me To Life" singer, took a shot at rearranging the track's exquisite mandolin and guitar portions.
Lee adds powerful and emotional belts to the track that normally finds tattered Robert Plant vocals.
Lee took to Facebook to explain how her choice of Led Zeppelin IV's "Going to California" came about. After listening to the instrumentals Berliant had recorded all in good fun, the singer decided she had to cover it. The song holds close value to Lee and her family-she even sings it to her son Jack to put him to bed at night. "This song is a classic that I've loved for as long as I can remember. It puts me at peace," she wrote.
During an Evanescence gig last month, the group tackled a live performance of the 1971 track. "It's a pleasure to sing a song publicly that is such a part of who I am offstage - my roots, the style of music that we always played around my house when I was growing up, and still at every big family gathering, singing and playing music with my dad," she explained.
Lee's chilling rendition of "Going to California" trails her take on U2's 1987 The Joshua Tree track "With or Without You" and a spin on Portishead's "It's A Fire" from their 1994 debut album, dummy. Lee recently detailed her recording progress, admitting that she plans to release a solo LP shortly.
