Oneohtrix Point Never, the moniker of electronic producer Daniel Lopatin, has teamed up with visual artist Nate Boyce on a short film entitled "Repossession Sequence." The nightmarish CGI video features excerpts from Lopatin's recent album Garden of Delete including "Freaky Eyes," "Ezra" and "Mutant Standard" as well as some additional composition.
As Thump points out, "Repossession Sequence" is the fourth installment in Warp Records and Channel 4's Random Acts video series. Previously the series featured clips from Hudson Mohawke ("System"), Darkstar ("The Days Burn Blue"), and Battles ("Dot Net"). The HudMo video features CGI visuals from artists Dominic Flannigan and Nic Hamilton that are reminiscent of stock images from the 90s. The Darkstar video, on the other hand, somehow squeezes an entire live-action coming-of-age film into four minutes, thanks to visual artist Lucy Luscombe who has also worked with artists like Blood Orange and Bingo Players on equally striking music videos. The Battles cut was actually the first of the series and seems to have set the tone for what follows thanks to director Ben Jones. The description for "Dot Net" simply states "An idealised vision of the interaction between man and technology," which is a pretty apt description of all four videos in the series so far. Watch "Dot Net" below.
The new Oneohtrix Point Never collaboration with Nate Boyce is accompanied by the following statement: "Is this the intro to a TV show about an orbital prison cell chained to freely roaming organism? The sculpture's burden is the prison of another organism it cannot communicate with. In certain cases the imprisoned organism could become a cipher through which its captor speaks." Watch the surreal three minute film below.
