Nicki Minaj Posts $100,000 Bail for Brother Jelani in Reported Rape Case

Nicki Minaj has posted $100,000 bail for her brother in his reported rape case. This past Thursday (Dec. 3), her brother, Jelani Maraj, was arraigned in court in Nassau country on charges of first degree sexual conduct in addition to rape of a 12-year-old girl. The AP reports that court documents state that Maraj raped the child several times. The bond posted by Minaj is supported by two homes in Baldwin that she owns, one inhabited by her mother and the other by her brother.

According to The New York Post, a source said that, "She was prepared to do anything for her brother," and it's implied that Minaj will continue to stand by him throughout the ensuing trial. In an intriguing twist considering the charges against him, Maraj was recently married to his long-term girlfriend, Jacqueline Robinson, this past August and according to US Weekly, Minaj also paid that bill for her brother.

Minaj will be held responsible for all fees that correspond with the bond, which usually run from 6 to 10 percent of the full amount, in standard monetary terms about $6,000 to $10,000. Reportedly if the prosecutors had asked for $500,000 Minaj had been willing to offer up a credit letter from a California bank account in the amount of $2 million.

Maraj's bail was taken over by celebrity bondsman Ira Judelson according to court papers obtained by the Post. Other bond cases that Judelson has taken on include Lil Wayne and Kat Williams. Both Judelson and Maraj's lawyers, Ben Brafman and Andrea Zellan, refused to comment on the case when the press reached out.

Minaj is reportedly very close with her brother and has in the past used him as inspiration in her musical works, in tracks "All Things Go and "I'm the Best." In her song "All Things Go," she included him in the lyrics ("And I know Jelani will always love me and I'll always love him / I'm just his little sister, not Nicki Minaj when I'm around him.")
