Nearly two months ago, pop star on the rise, Selena Gomez, revealed that the true reason for her taking a step out of the spotlight for a while was due to dealing with chemotherapy treatments for her lupus diagnosis. Now, the "Good For You" singer has further opened up about her recovery process and how she dealt with it in the public eye.
Since dealing with the autoimmune disorder, Gomez admitted that it's been overwhelming overall, but she's now in good health. "It has been overwhelming and the response has been very supportive, which is nice - but it still makes me a little uncomfortable," she told Billboard. "I waited for the right time to talk about it because I am in a great place and I'm very healthy," the Revival singer continued. "I'm not trying to be loud about it: It was time to use my platform to help."
The former Disney channel star first broke the news of her chronic inflammatory disorder in October. When the 23-year-old pop star checked into a rehab center for two weeks, rumors flew concerning substance abuse. "I wanted so badly to say, 'You guys have no idea. I'm in chemotherapy. You're a-holes,'" she told Billboard in October.
After the news circulated, Gomez stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show, admitting that he diagnoses came three years prior. "That was something I did want to keep private until my whole life suddenly wasn't private." Gomez has done a pretty impressive job at keeping her busiest with performances at the American Music Awards and the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.
Nick Cannon also faces lupus, but keeps himself alert by keeping active and busy. Lady Gaga is another celebrity involved with the disease and its effects--she told Larry King in 2010 that when tested, her results were "borderline positive," E! notes.
