Tiësto has announced his first album in five years, the follow-up to 2009's Kaleidoscope. In the years since that release, electronic dance music has exploded into mainstream culture. In an interview with Rolling Stone, the 45-year-old DJ explains why he waited until now to release a new LP.
"The big dance music explosion was just about to happen, so the ideas and sounds on [Kaleidoscope] come from what seems like a different time and place," he told them. "So much has happened for dance music in such a short amount of time so it now seems like the perfect time for me to revisit the idea of an artist album."
The result, A Town Called Paradise, will be released June 16 via Casablanca Records.
Tiësto says that the album's title and sound were influenced by Las Vegas, where he is a resident at both Hakkasan and Wet Republic. He calls the city "an oasis of entertainment."
The 14-track album features artists such as Icona Pop, Krewella, Matthew Koma and Hardwell.
