During his Australian stadium run, Ed Sheeran decided to put some time aside to set up his very own private "peep show" with the help of the native comedy duo Hamish & Andy. Set up in a dodgy alleyway, the duo tried reeling in streetwalkers for a $2 concert by the "Thinking Out Loud" singer, which really meant his clothes would stay on and he would serenade prospective buyers.
"Do you want to peep at Ed Sheeran for $2?" Hamish questioned pedestrians as they walked by.
Hamish Blake took on the rough streets, trying to engage passerbys with the cheap deal. For an entire two hours and 23 minutes, Sheeran, who sat on a stool behind red curtains, didn't get one participant-not for a lack of trying but because some simply didn't know who he was or didn't believe the sketchy scenario of it all.
"I think one of the big problems is that a lot of people think 'Ed Sheeran' is a code word for a new drug," the comedian joked about the lack of willing participants. Finally, one couple took Hamish up on the strange deal and were shocked once they laid their eyes on Sheeran performing his Grammy-nominated track "Thinking Out Loud."
Although only a small group of people were able to witness the expedient, once in a lifetime "peep show," the lucky viewers were quite impressed with the deal they stumbled upon. Some brought out their phones to document the show while other fans sang along with the X singer.
His suave performance only continued for 30 seconds before the curtains dropped on the Gingerbread Man Records owner, causing him to stop singing immediately. Although timing was cut short, those who saw the "Photograph" singer's impromptu show agreed that it was time and money well spent.
"(It was) the best two f*cking dollars I've ever spent," gushed one fan on her way out.
Sheeran's New Zealand and Australian tour wraps up at Auckland's Mt Smart Stadium on Dec. 12.
