Drake received several nods for the 58th Grammy Awards, but his most recent hit, “Hotline Bling,” was noticeably absent from the nominations. According to online reports, Drizzy’s Grammy snub was caused by Birdman's Cash Money Records.
According to Hits Daily Double, the viral hit was left out because of a clerical error by the label. The site reports that the song was not submitted and would have been up for multiple awards, including Record of the Year.
“Hotline Bling” is Drake’s biggest hit to date and one of the year’s most remixed songs. The track was first released back in July via SoundCloud. The song was among a handful of tracks that helped Drake earn 100 entries on the Billboard Hot 100. It peaked at No. 2 on the charts behind Adele’s “Hello.”
Drake is nominated in categories including Best Rap Performance for his Meek Mill diss track "Back to Back" and Best Rap Song for "Energy."
In 2012, he won a Grammy Award for Best Rap Album for Take Care.
The Toronto rapper is prepping the release of his highly anticipated Views From The 6 album. In November, a black billboard appeared in his hometown and led to speculation that it hinted at the release of the album. The billboard read, “The 6 is watching."
Drake has already released two projects, If You're Reading This It's Too Late and What A Time To Be Alive with Future, this year. IYRTITL became the first million-selling album of 2015. After selling another 8,000 copies in the week ending Aug. 7, the album became the first of the year to sell a million copies in the U.S. IYRTITL has sold over 1.007 million units since its February release and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart.
