Singer and reality TV star Toni Braxton is turning her 2014 memoir, Unbreak My Heart, into a Lifetime movie, and while it was originally reported that Braxton would be playing herself in the film, it's now been announced that the role will be taken on by Hollywood newbie Lex Scott Davis.
Davis has played small parts on TV, but the Braxton biopic would be her first major role. Davis might be a new face, but she's familiar with the music world: As the niece of singer-producer Rico Love, she's been around the R&B block and should have a solid musical foundation.
Lifetime has been infamous for off-base biopics that include actors and actresses who look nothing like the people they are playing (for example, godawful Aaliyah biopic), but they might be on the right track with this one, as Davis and Braxton have similar facial features. Now whether or not Davis can get the petite powerhouse's hand movements and singing style down has yet to be seen, but we're hoping for the best.
According to Lifetime, this biopic will be "the never-before-told story of the measures Braxton took to make herself and her family whole again, serving as an inspiration to people around the world." Vibe reports the singer will be executive producer and will appear in the film, which will cover controversial topics such as Braxton's autistic son Diezel, as well as her financial struggles and her ill-fated marriage to ex-Mint Condition member Keri Lewis.
Unbreak My Heart premieres Jan. 23 at 8 p.m., and as an extra treat to Toni Braxton fans, Lifetime will air a one-hour special right after the premiere called Beyond The Headline: Toni Braxton. The special will feature interviews and moments with the singer's family and friends.
While you're waiting, though, you might be able to catch a glimpse or two of the real Toni Braxton when her baby sister's popular reality show, Tamar and Vince, premieres tonight, Dec. 10, at 9 p.m. on WeTV.
