Audrey Peeples of 'Nashiville' fame cast as Jem in Scooter Braun's 'Jem and The Holograms' film

The producers behind the upcoming film version of Jem and The Holograms have announced the cast for the Hasbro-inspired band of the same name.

Aubrey Peeples, best known for her role as Layla in the show Nashville (although we appreciate her best for her role in TV film Sharknado), will play the front woman for the cartoon (now live-action) band. Disney veteran Stefanie Scott will play keyboardist Kimber, Pretty Little Liars actress Aurora Perrineau will play bassist Shana, and guitarist Aja will be played by Hayley Kiyoko. The band will presumably feature a drummer, but an actress hasn't been announced yet.

The trio of individuals behind the production is a curious one. First of all, there's Scooter Braun, best known as manager for Justin Bieber, G.I. Joe: Retaliation director Jon. M. Chu, and Jason Blum, the producer for Paranormal Activity. We don't know how Blum works into the picture, but Chu also directed movies for Bieber. Plus, he's got the Hasbro connection from G.I. Joe.

The film seems to be moving along rather quickly, as shooting has already begun. Less than three months ago, Braun, Chu and Blum were fan-submitted videos for extras roles within the film and were even taking pitches from the original cartoon's fans for favorite characters to incorporate into the film.

The film is due to debut during 2015.
