An unexpected One Direction fan has come forth to proclaim his love for the band: Coldplay's Chris Martin. During an in-depth interview with BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe (via NME), the singer called the X Factor-generated boy band "the biggest band in the world."
"Their songs are brilliant," he said. "I'm saying One Direction are brilliant, and I'm not kidding."
He continued: "You know why? Because their songs are really good, and I don't think any of them are going to go solo. I think they appreciate their chemistry from watching their movie."
Martin spoke about meeting Harry Styles, who has been to a few Coldplay shows before. "I was pretty sure I was a straight guy before," he joked. "I was having a hot flush."
Coldplay's upcoming album, Ghost Stories, is due out May 19. It follows up 2011's electronic-influenced Mylo Xyloto.
