Brandon Heath released the official music video for his popular song, 'Love Does,' off of his most recent album, 'Blue Mountain,' earlier today, July 3.
The video is sponsored by FH, Food For The Hungry, and documents four different individuals writing letters from four very different walks of life. The meaning is driven home at the end of the video when those letters are given to young men and women in totally different parts of the world and those letters end up impacting their lives and bringing them joy.
This video is a fitting for the song, 'Love Does,' which deals with the idea that, although it is often hard to find acknowledgement and understanding in this world, God understands and acknowledges us in our lives. The lyrics read, "Nobody knows why your heart is broken/ Nobody cries while your prayers are going up/ But Love does/ Nobody walks on the road you're paving/ Nobody sees all the souls you're saving/ Oh, but love does."
The video takes the idea of God's love a step further and communicates the message that we should also try to become that love in the lives of others. Where people don't notice, or understand, or care, we should.
Heath created a complex cast of characters for his most recent album, 'Blue Mountain.' "I wanted to get out of myself a little bit on this one," Heath said, according to his website. "I like to write story songs and I like characters. I wanted to create some characters, but I needed a framework. In a conversation with my friend Al Andrews, who I always get a lot of song ideas from, he commented that he had read somewhere that some people can be like Blue Mountains. In the distance, they are mysterious and majestic and you can't touch them, but when you get up close to them, you realize they are just brown and green. They aren't blue at all. For some reason, that got my mind going. So, I started writing songs about different characters---the coal miner, the farmer, the guy who is on death row."
Rather than successfully being able to simply create an imaginary cast of characters, Heath found that he ultimately ended up just writing about himself. The characters became a reflection of various aspects of his complex character.
The new album deals with themes such as forgiveness, servanthood and the power of grace. "I want people to feel loved and comforted because that's what I feel I can offer through the songs on this record," Heath said of the album. "I hope listeners will take a journey with me; that they'll step out of their lives for a moment to explore Blue Mountain and its' characters. My hope is that they'll find themselves there."
