Unlike the "most ignored artists list," the Vocativ Music Index looked at data from MusicMetric.com, which including BitTorrent illegal downloads and Twitter, and adjusted for market (city) size and several other factors, like how fast the average Internet speed was in any given town, to build a profile of 100 cities’ musical tastes. The genres they asked about were blues, Christian/Gospel, country, dance/electronic, jazz, Latin, pop, R&B/hip hop, reggae and rock.
So what cities in the U.S. have the biggest population of Christian / Gospel music fans?
- Knoxville, TN (where pop fans are scarce)
- Ft. Wayne, IN (where you won't find many Reggae fans)
- Tulsa, OK (don't look for many dance/electronic fans here)
- Springfield, MO (which ranks 98/100 for fans of R&B/hip-hop)
- Chattanooga, TN (lots of country fans here too)
- Anchorage, AK (the opposite of Knoxville where pop is concerned, Anchorage ranks #5 in pop)
- Mobile, AL (in Mobile, Christian music holds the vast majority)
- Oklahoma City, OK (count on hearing lots of Christian and country music in this town!)
- Lubbock, TX (ranked at the bottom - #100 - for jazz, Lubbock residents like their Christian and country)
- Wichita, KS (blues is their #1 pick, but folks in Wichita enjoy Christian too)
If you're looking for Country music fans, look to ...
- Evansville, IN
- Lexington, KY
- Billings, MT
- Green Bay, WI
- Fargo-Valley City, ND
- Nashville, TN
- Sioux Falls, SD
