Rudimental: Lay It All On Me
The original is one of the mellower and personal songs from the Rudimental album and the new remix attempts to give the track some crossover appeal. While the original goes for the softer, more acoustic Ed Sheeran fan base and appears to be working having just cracked the top 50 on the charts, the remix has a slightly different instrumental that skews more towards the talents of Big Sean and Vic Mensa.
Rudimental add some more snare rolls to the tune, while Big Sean and Vic Mensa each lay down a verse. Ed Sheeran's silky smooth hook are kept intact, as well as one of his verse, which doesn't sound a bit off over the retooled hip-hop beat.
Speaking to The Fader, Rudimental explained why they went with a hip-hop remix for "Lay It All On Me." "We wanted to collaborate on something and he really felt 'Lay It All On Me' so we changed the beat a bit so it suited a rapper. Vic Mensa is one of our favorite up and coming rappers so we got really excited when he agreed to jump on for a verse and felt like a good fit with Big Sean."
This remix will be released on Christmas Day, Dec. 25 via Major Toms / Big Beat Records.
The group will need some of this crossover appeal on New Year's Eve when they perform at Pier 36 in New York City with Future.
