Grateful Dead Tribute Night Returning to Boston's Fenway Park for 2016

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Grateful Dead, the Boston Red Sox presented a special Grateful Dead Tribute Night on September 21 of last year. After a successful turnout, the baseball-themed night dedicated to the musical talents of Bob Weir and company, will make a return to Boston's Fenway Stadium in April of 2016.

On Thursday, April 28, the Red Sox will take on the Atlanta Braves on the same day as The Red Sox Grateful Dead Night 2016, Jambase notes. Tickets are currently on sale and with each purchase, fans will be gifted a uniquely crafted Grateful Dead t-shirt. Yawkey Way will host a pregame concert focused strictly on the music of the Palo Alto group, consisting of Weir, Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, Phil Lesh and the late Jerry Garcia. For last year's festivities, local Boston musician, Fennario, performed a pre-game gig ahead of the Fenway Park Grateful Dead night.

All ticket sale earnings will go towards the Rex Foundation, the official Grateful Dead Charity in remembrance of their road manager, Rex Jackson. According to the official website, "The Rex Foundation aims to help secure a healthy environment, promote individuality in the arts, provide support to critical and necessary social services, assist others less fortunate than ourselves, protect the rights of indigenous people and ensure their cultural survival, build a stronger community, and educate children and adults everywhere." The House of Blues will also host a VIP pregame party of their own in order to further benefit the Rex Foundation.

For those closer to the New York City area, both Portchester's Capitol Theatre and the Brooklyn Bowl will be hosting their own Jerry Garcia dance parties, which assembles deadheads for a night of tribute to Garia's music paired with a mesmerizing light show.

Trailing the summer string of Fare Thee Well gigs, Hart, Weir and Kreutzmann put their musical gifts together with John Mayer, Oteil Burbridge and Jeff Chimenti to make up Dead & Company, which have been on the road touring Dead songs throughout North America.
