During a visit to Tim Westwood’s radio show on Capital Xtra, “No Type” duo Rae Sremmurd confirmed that their sophomore album SremmLife 2 will drop in 2016.
While on the show, Slim Jimmy and Swae Lee discussed a number of topics, including new music. Jimmy confirmed that SremmLife 2 will be released in February 2016. “It’s gonna be banger after banger after slapper,” he said.
The Mississippi rappers first revealed they were working on a new album back in June during an interview with the KMEL radio station at the BET Awards. The project was originally slated for a December release.
They also addressed recent comments made by Hot 97’s Ebro Darden, who blasted Complex for ranking their debut album SremmLife so high on their year-end best albums list. The radio host also claimed that they don’t write their own lyrics.
“We ain’t worried about it,” Swae said. “People want to express their opinions, it’s his opinion, he good for it.”
For good measure, the two even spit a 20-minute freestyle.
Aside from working on new music, the pair is gearing up to host their first annual Sremm Fest in their hometown of Tupelo. Jimmy and Swae announced the big event, which is set to take place Dec. 18-20, last month. The festival will kick off with a celebrity basketball game on Friday night. Sremmurd will headline a concert on Saturday with other performers including Yo Gotti, Dej Loaf, K Camp, Two-9, Eearz and a DJ set from producer Mike WiLL Made-It. Sunday, the “Come Get Her” tag team will host a community BBQ with a food and toy drive to wrap up the event.
Tupelo mayor Jason Shelton will present the two rappers with the Key to the City during Saturday’s musical showcase. SremmFest is the first festival of its kind in the city.
