Tove Lo has really been on the come-up this year, with the re-release of her 2014 album Queen of the Clouds, a tour in support of it and a new music video for latest single "Moments." In new songs that she has begun working on, cites The Weeknd as a major influence because of his sexy sound in a new interview. She's performed onstage with the R&B singer for a few dates of the 2015 Jingle Ball.
"The Weeknd's been a big inspiration for me," Tove Lo said to Billboard. "I feel like his music is really sexy, and I like that. I could never pull off what he's doing but I can hear him in some of my songs, so there may be some songs that melodically have the same kind of vibe."
Tove Lo also explained her writing process, and for her sophomore effort, it doesn't seem like she will be getting less introspective. "I wrote the current album before anyone knew who I was, so now I'm just trying to make sure I still stay as personal. That's the reason I write - it's my outlet for everything I'm going through. Some of it may sound really extreme, and people hear those kind of lyrics and they don't get it," she said.
Tove Lo continued on the difference between her music and her everyday persona, "Because when they meet me they're like, 'You're a happy sunshine person and it doesn't go together.' I go through a million emotions a day. I've learned how to behave; I'm not crazy. I keep the crazy in the music."
The "Moments" singer is again collaborating with Ludvig Soderberg and Jakob Jerlstrom who joined her for Queen of the Clouds, and the trio will reportedly be beginning production of her new songs just after the new year. It was previously reported that her songs would be more upbeat, but in the interview she expressed that it is just the opposite.
Tove Lo also recently performed her new single "Moments" on The Late Late Show With James Corden the night before Thanksgiving. Her performance was sexy as usual but it towed the line between provocative and introspective. For her, the set was somewhat subdued although she did rip off her long flowing maxi dress to reveal a fitted black leotard underneath halfway through.
