As previously reported, 34-year-old footwork/juke pioneer DJ Rashad was found dead in his home on Chicago's west side on April 26 from what was initially a suspected drug overdose.
Earlier today, The Guardian reported that Rashad's cousin had obtained autopsy results and relayed them to Rashad's UK label Hyperdub. He told them that the coroner's report had concluded a blood clot in his leg, rather than an overdose, was the cause of death.
Now, Pitchfork reveals that Rashad's cousin's report may not have been completely accurate, according to Rashad's mother. As Pitchfork notes, "the information printed in the Guardian is not verified and an official statement is forthcoming."
It was initially reported that drug paraphernalia was found near his body when the police arrived to investigate. According to the Guardian, the paraphernalia was related to marijuana and not hard drugs.
We'll update you once a confirmed report is given.
