Amber Rose is known for being outspoken about women's rights, but now she has opened up about an assault that she endured in middle school. Rose additionally organized Slut Walk and is the author of How to Be a Bad B***h. Her interview was eye-opening and again examined the issue of victim-blaming that is so common in our culture.
MTV asked Rose, "This year, we've seen a lot of stories about students being taken out of class or sent home from prom for dress code violations. Most of these students are girls. Do you think that's sexist?" Rose opened up with, "I was sexually assaulted in the seventh grade. This boy stuck his hand all the way up my skirt. I was sitting on the edge of the stage in the auditorium, and he sat down next to me and put his hand up my skirt. I went to the principal, and I told her that I felt extremely violated. I couldn't believe that he had touched me like that." She further said, "And she blamed me. She said, 'You shouldn't even be wearing a skirt like that.' Obviously, in the seventh grade, my skirt was not that short - but even if it was, that didn't give him the right to shove his hand up my skirt."
Rose also recently came under fire for her statements about seducing men for money in an interview with Time magazine while promoting her new book, How to Be a Bad B***h, she seemed to suggest that her rough childhood and aptitude as a hustler should inspire women everywhere.
"As women, we're fortunate enough to use our seductive skills in order to be able to get money from our significant others," she said to Time. "I also talk about seduction in the book. A lot of women don't know how to seduce a man."
She also gave more standard advice such as finding mentors in your chosen field, being careful with money and making sure that you are educated on your goals, but still came under Twitter fire for her comments to the magazine. Readers seemed to think that she was encouraging women to use sex in order to get ahead, with her past as a stripper as well as relationships with men in the music industry being cited.
