It's hard to believe from her stunning vocals, but Adele smoked upwards of 25 cigarettes a day just four years ago, before she quit. Due in part to the smoking, the singer lost her voice in 2011. She additionally underwent surgery in order to prevent a recurring vocal chord hemorrhage and physicians advised her to quit smoking or give up on her career. In two new interviews Adele talks cigarette addiction and how she quit smoking for her son.
"If I'd carried on smoking I'd probably have died from a smoking-related illness," Adele said to The Daily Mirror. "And I think that's really bad. If I was dying from lung cancer I would have potentially given it to myself, and that wouldn't be something I'd be proud of."
She also recently said to Rolling Stone that, "I absolutely loved it, but it's not that f*ckking cool when I'm dying from a smoking-related illness and my kid is, like, devastated."
Good thing she quit, as NBC Networks recently aired Adele Live in New York City, which was taped this past month at Radio City Music Hall. The two-hour long show included hits such as "Rolling in the Deep," "Set Fire to the Rain," "Chasing Pavements," and of course "Hello" from her latest album 25.
The Adele Live in New York City special was produced by Lorne Michaels of Saturday Night Live and had a bevy of stars, including Jennifer Lawrence, Steven Spielberg, Bradley Cooper, and even Donald Trump in attendance. The show as introduced by Jimmy Fallon, with whom Adele recently collaborated on an a acoustic version of "Hello."
Adele also recently announced both a European and North American tour, with tickets selling out at record speed. For her North American portion fans stormed the interwebs looking to buy tickets and some ended up being locked out or realizing after long waiting times that they were already sold out. Some of those unable to get tickets took to Twitter in their anger and disappointment.
