She. She is Sia, the elusive chanteuse. The Australian singer/songwriter quietly released one of the best pop anthems of 2014 with "Chandelier." Due to her love of anonymity, Sia herself doesn't actually perform or appear in the music video. For the job of the lead, she tapped Dance Moms star Maddie Zeigler, who very much steals the show with her incredible dancing abilities.
Zeigler, donning a Sia-esque wig and a nude bodysuit, appears first in a shoddy bedroom of a crappy apartment before she swings, not from a chandelier, but from room to room doing her best ballet moves. Her twists and turns and high kicks would be impressive for anybody, but for an 11-year-old they're purely astounding.
Though Sia herself doesn't appear in the music video, she's present in other ways, namely through the pictures on the wall. As Radio.com points out, Sia is present through a series of pencil drawings and less well done portraits throughout the apartment. Even her dog is represented through the drawings, making Sia even more elusive.

The juxtaposition of the desolate apartment with the dark side of the party girl lifestyle featured in the lyrics of Sia's "Chandelier" shouldn't go without notice. Though the music video itself is bleak, it fits the shiny yet depressing notes of the song, making this yet another way this track stands out among the pop tripe of 2014.
