Rihanna has left her first label and has now signed to Jay Z's Roc Nation record label. She had previously been with Def Jam since 2005, where she released all seven of her albums.
As Digital Spy points out, Jay Z was the President of Def Jam at the time and influential in signing Rihanna to the label. He left in 2009 for Roc Nation, which he formed in partnership with Live Nation.
Rihanna has been with Roc Nation's management team since 2009 after parting ways with her former manager Marc Jordan. Her profile on Roc Nation's site has been updated. She is now featured in their "Legacy" section and her profile specifies that she is signed to the label as well as the management team.
According to MTV, Jay Z wouldn't let Rihanna leave the Def Jam offices until she signed with them after he was given her demo by his A&R man, Jay Brown. "We signed her that night - three in the morning was when that contract got signed," Jay told MTV after Rihanna was signed in 2005. "We wouldn't let her leave the office. From meeting her at four [p.m.] in the office till three in the morning, I was absolutely certain. That doesn't happen too often. To get lawyers to draft up a contract and the other side to agree to a contract in [a matter of] hours is retarded."
Rihanna joins the likes of Calvin Harris, Alexa Goddard, J Cole and Jay Z himself on Roc Nation.
