'Firework' Singer Katy Perry Spreads Holiday Cheer, Sends Card to Young Burn Victim

Katy Perry has spread holiday cheer this year, sending a card to a young burn victim residing in Rotterdam, New York. The "Firework" singer listened to a holiday wish from 8-year-old Safyre Terry, who had hoped for Christmas cards to decorate her card tree. She wished for one from Perry to be the crowning jewel. 8-year-old Terry is a burn victim, with severe scars from a fire that both her father and siblings died in back in 2013. More than just Perry reached out to Safyre and she ended up with upwards of a million cards. In addition to Perry, famous figures Barack Obama and Beyonce also sent her holiday wishes in a card.

According to NME, Perry wrote in the card, "Safyre, I heard about your Christmas wish and am so honored that you saved the top of the tree for me! I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and a great New Year. I'll be thinking of you on Christmas day. Special girl." Perry also included a hoodie with ears, an iPhone 6 case that lights up, a Part of Me DVD and a black purse in the shape of a cat in her package.

Recently, Perry revealed a bit about her own childhood in an interview with People Magazine and said that she wasn't allowed to read the Harry Potter series as a child. Perry was raised by her parents Keith and Mary Hudson, who are strict, devout Christian ministers. Most would consider the Harry Potter series to be a childhood staple, but Perry was unable to partake in the literary wizarding world as a young adolescent.

"I know Harry Potter, but I've never read the books, more have I seen the movies because growing up, I was not allowed to read the books," Perry said.

She further told the publication, "Growing up, I wasn't allowed to have any fantastical, enchanting stuff around me. It's funny now that I'm doing a little bit of a magic-potion-themed perfume."
