Hudson Mohawke Covers John Carpenter’s ‘Escape From New York’ Theme [LISTEN]

Hudson Mohawke has covered John Carpenter's Escape From New York theme. HudMo dropped his version, aptly entitled "Escape," as part of LuckyMe's annual Advent Calendar, which Pitchfork reports is offering a new free download from the label's roster of signees every day until Little Christmas on January 6th.

While the track's sweeping synths and driving drum hits fit right in with HudMo's established sonic palette, as Stereogum suggests, the ethereal track calls to mind Carpenter's Lost Themes album which was released early in 2015. Listen to "Escape" via the label's Soundcloud, below.

Born Ross Brichard, the Glasgow-born producer also known as one half of TNGHT alongside Lunice, released his first solo LP in six years, Lantern, this past summer to much buzz. "Escape" follows shortly after that release and certainly proves that the G.O.O.D. Music in-house producer has not been neglecting his solo career while racking-up production credits on countless artists' releases.

LuckyMe of course is the label that in 2015 alone was behind tracks like Kanye West's Cashmere Cat-produced "Wolves" and AHOHNI's "4 Degrees" which was co-produced by HudMo and Oneohtrix Point Never, as well as longer releases like Rustie's EvenIfUDontBelieve and Lunice's 180 EP, just to name a few.

2015 marks the label's 7th annual Advent Calendar full of new releases. As stated on the calendar's website, ever since the label started the series the idea has been replicated by countless others, so 2015 also marks the first year the label is celebrating the "12 Days of Christmas" rather than the whole month of December.

While it's technically not a proper Advent Calendar, the aim has always been less about Christmas and more about producing a compilation of rarities, alternate versions of tracks and brand new exclusives that span the spectrum of sounds that come out of LuckyMe year-round. So far the calendar also features DJ PayPal's "No One Else."

It's also worth noting that last year LuckyMe added a charitable component to the holiday tradition. This year, the label will be making a donation to the Syrian Refugee Crisis from the profits of streaming the songs on Spotify and YouTube.
