DJ Shadow has surprise-released his first solo track in over a year, "Swerve." The last time fans heard from the producer/DJ was in 2014 when he launched his Liquid Amber imprint with an EP of the same name.
He shared the hard-hitting trap-styled new single via his Soundcloud with a note: "DJ's, Santa's not done with you yet. He dropped off this nifty little battle weapon for me to share with you. Enjoy, and see you in 2016!"
That blurb certainly seems to indicate that "Swerve" is just one small piece of a larger project that fans can expect from the producer in the coming year. As Thump points out, that theory is supported by a recent tweet that suggests the producer has spent well over 100 days in the studio as of late.
Pitchfork confirmed that fans can expect a full-length DJ Shadow release in the new year. The forthcoming LP will mark the producer's first full-length studio effort since 2011's The Less You Know, the Better. Although last summer's Liquid Amber EP held fans over for awhile, "Swerve" and the rest of the as-of-yet-named new album have been a long time coming.
In addition to spending hundreds of hours in the studio working on his solo material, DJ Shadow and G Jones revealed last spring that they are Nite School Klik, which marked DJ Shadow's first side project under a different alias since Grave Robbers in the '90s.
Those tracks, "Posse" and "Nice Nightmares," ultimately appeared on a self-titled EP alongside an Eprom remix of "Nice Nightmares." The whole EP is super heavy and still available to stream on Soundcloud.
