'Infinity' DJ, Rave Pioneer Guru Josh Dead At Age Of 51

It has been a tough December for the music industry. First Stone Temple Pilot frontman Scott Weiland died on Dec. 3 and then Motorhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister died at the age of 70 on Dec. 26. Now the world of music has had another soul taken from us too soon. Paul Walden, known by his stage name Guru Josh and his 1990 hit "Infinity" has died at the age of 51.

The cause of death is still uncertain according to The Guardian.

The rave pioneer got his start as Guru Josh, making house music with his band Joshua Cries Wolf. This became the hit single "Infinity," which landed at No. 5 on the UK pop charts. It wasn't picked up by many clubs, but Mike Pickering, the DJ at the influential Hacienda in Manchester decided to play the song frequently. This contributed to its spread across Europe.

They released an album, also titled Infinity and soon thereafter, Walden moved to Ibiza, where started up a digital graphics and rave promotions business. He also started the successful moniker Dr. Devious, which combined 3D fractal graphics and music.

The song got reworked in 2008 and reintroduced to a new generation of fans just as dance music started to explode in the United States.

Other DJs who were influenced by Guru Josh and his work as a pioneer in the early 1990s rave scene have started to pay their respects on social media.
