J. Cole: Road to Homecoming HBO Series
J. Cole: 2014 Forest Hills Drive Tour
J. Cole: Dollar & Dream Tour
The four-date tour kicked off in Dallas on June 21, headed to New York City on June 22, followed by Atlanta on June 24 and finished in Los Angeles on June 26.
The goal of the tour was to bring back something special to the fans. Cole would perform at a venue, announced the day of the show, for just $1. Entry was done on a first come, first served basis and he performed his breakout mixtape Friday Night Lights.
The video goes into how they decided to do this tour and how they eventually got over their apprehension of doing the full mixtape. His manager explains that at first they weren't sure about doing the whole mixtape, because it wasn't full of hits. However after seeing the reaction of fans, they got over that fear and decided to tour the tape.
Cole and his team have one regret that they didn't sell the mixtape because it was put out as a reaction towards his first album Cole World: The Sideline Story being locked up in the Roc Nation vault for nearly two years.
There is plenty of live footage from the shoes with fans vibing out with Cole and signing along at key moments. His setup is much smaller than the 2014 Forest Hills Drive Tour.
It also takes you behind the scenes into the stress that goes into planning one of these types of tour where thousands of fans couldn't even get into the shows and police threatened to shut down shows before they even started it.
The Los Angeles show was a very special one as Cole brought out Wale and Kendrick Lamar to do songs. There is even mention of the Cole and Kendrick album and Rihanna makes a cameo back stage calling the show "Honest, vulnerable and confident."
