There has been an outpouring of support in the music world following the death of Motorhead's Lemmy Kilmister, but Dave Grohl has gone above and beyond. The Foo Fighters' frontman has actually gotten a tattoo in honor of Kilmister. Grohl had new ink of Motorhead's Ace of Spades logo tattooed on his forearm to commemorate the memory of his fallen friend and collaborator.
Grohl posted on Facebook to pay homage to Kilmister on the official Foo Fighters page, writing, "We've lost a friend & legend. My heart is broken. RIP Lemmy. Born To Lose, Lived To Win." He additionally added a link to a Motorhead performance of "Stay Clean" from their album Overkill, released in 1979.
According to Consequence of Sound, Grohl and Kilmister collaborated frequently on musical projects. The Foo Fighters' frontman used Kilmister's vocals for his heavy metal project Probot back in 2004 and they also performed together in 2010 at the Revolver Golden Gods Awards. Kilmister additionally had a starring role in the "White Limo" music video by the Foo Fighters.
Grohl is just one of many in the music world to reach out following Kilmister's death. Motorhead's drummer Mikkey Dee opened up about Kilmister's final months on tour and the future of Motorhead in an interview with the Swedish publication Expressen.
"Motorhead is over, of course," Dee said to Expressen. "Lemmy was Motorhead. But the band will live on in the memories of many."
He also spoke on Kilmister's deteriorating health towards the end of his life, saying, "He was terribly gaunt, he spent all of his energy on stage and afterwards he was very, very tired. It's incredible that he could even play, that he could finish the Europe tour. It was only 20 days ago. Unbelievable."
