Kevin Gates is gearing up to release his debut album Islah later this month and the "2 Phones" rapper has unveiled the LP's complete tracklist. He made the announcement yesterday on Instagram.
In a rare move for hip-hop albums, Gates has no listed features on the LP and will be doing the whole thing solo. He could be waiting to share some of the collaborators if they are big names and will add to the album's marketing over the next three weeks. It is a risk to fly solo on an album as lengthy as this with 15-tracks, but if it does well or flops then there is only one person to blame - Kevin Gates.
Gates has put out several singles over the past several months including "Really Really," "2 Phones," "La Familia" and "The Truth." He has been sharing information about the album over the past several months and pushing the release date back, but now everything appears to be set in stone.
In a statement via Hot New Hip Hop, Gates explained the meaning of the album title Islah. "ISLAH means to reform, to improve, to make better, and I believe that's what my first daughter did to me. So I named my first album after my first daughter; because it improved me, it made me better."
Watch the video for "Really Really" below and pre-order a copy of the LP on iTunes. Pre-orders will come with instant downloads of the previously released singles. Islah will be released on Jan. 29.
