Father John Misty, aka J. Tillman, released a few tracks on his Soundcloud, which he claims are rejected Pandora advertisements -- and they're hilarious.
It's unclear whether or not these are legitimate samples created for Pandora or if this is just another prank like his covers of Ryan Adams covers of Taylor Swift's 1989 in the vein of The Velvet Underground. Either way, they're pretty hysterical.
In some of the ads he sounds like an announcer for a monster truck rally getting his fans excited for the mayhem to come and in others he's cool and collected, calmly spouting out absurdities.
For one of the calmer recordings he makes a shout out, and or jab, at Ed Sheeran, claiming that Father John Misty's Pandora channel will play nothing but the pop star's hits.
"Whether you're snorting rails of Tide off priceless Matisse cutouts or stuck at home because of your dismal Uber rating, my customized mixtape is guaranteed to be 100 percent Ed Sheeran. That's Ed Sheeran all the time on Father John Misty radio."
Several of the recordings note that he's trying to promote his tour, which in radio interviews he's called a laborious task that he hates. In the opening of his WFPK interview in Louisville, he made that clear before the 1989 covers. These promos appear to be an extension of that brief interaction. Listen to the clips below and read their transcripts.
"People ask me all the time what they can expect from my upcoming tour. I show them a picture of me on the Daily Mail clutching a human foot, to which they respond, 'I'm sorry, I thought you were James Bay.' Thanks for listening."
"I'm Father John Misty and most nights I wake up in a cold sweat on a moving bus convinced I'm dead."
