A name everyone should be getting familiar with in 2016, Gallant and someone everyone should already be familiar with Sufjan Stevens have linked up on a stunning new cover of "Blue Bucket of Gold," taken from the folk musician's celebrated album Carrie & Lowell. The cover is a part of a new series "In The Room" being done by Gallant in coordination with Spotify.
The cover is totally different from the soft and folky version found on the album. This has much more soul with Gallant leading the way on vocals. Sufjan sits on the keys and provides some backup vocals to Gallant who totally flips the vocal treatment with his own voice, reaching for the high notes and nailing it. It remains soft and intimate, but with a more soulful feel.
According to a press release, Gallant describes the In The Room project as "an ongoing collaborative project - a chance to both pay tribute to and create something special with the artists that have inspired me the most."
This is only the first episode with more to come, though there are no hints at who the future collaborators may be. He is on the same label as ZHU and is closely linked with artists like Krewella, so they may appear in these videos.
The pair has been working together for a little while now. Sufjan took Gallant on tour this fall and a video of them covering Drake's hit single "Hotline Bling" at a show surfaced online. They will both be at Coachella, which means they could do this cover together there live.
Entering 2016, Gallant is launching this video series as well as finishing up a debut artist album. This should be a big year for the Los Angeles-based singer.
