In 2015, N.W.A.'s critically-acclaimed biopic shattered box office records. However not everyone was happy about the success of the film. The group's former manager Jerry Heller says he would be pissed if Straight Outta Compton receives an Oscar nod.
This is not surprising as Heller currently has a massive lawsuit waged against parties nvolved with making the film such as Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, NBC Universal along with the late rapper Eazy-E's estate. Since the film's debut Heller has been very vocal about the film's discrepancies and what he viewed as a negative portrayal of his character.
The Ruthless Records co-founder and former manger expresses in an interview with TMZ Live that he would be extremely upset if the film receives an Oscar nomination due to its glaring inaccuracies.
"They're saying things about me in that film that not only are not true, but they're very demeaning and degrading. And now it means that everybody all over the world is gonna think that about me. And it's just not true. It's just that so much more focus and attention is being brought to the movie now. I certainly would have felt a lot better if I was portrayed honestly. And if Eazy was portrayed in the light that he should have been," Heller told TMZ,
Heller went on to explain who he feels was responsible for the negative light he was painted sharing,
"Well, I think it was a combination of Ice Cube and Dr. Dre and the widow. I'm very proud of the work that he did. And I'm proud of the success that Ice Cube has had. They have no reason to be saying those things about me. I think with Cube, maybe it was jealousy of Eazy...It's always easier to take a shot at the white Jew. He sort of felt that I was-took Eazy's side against him," he said.
Currently Heller has a pending lawsuit against named parties above to the tune of $110 million dollars. The disgraced former manager is suing the film for $35 million for defamation of character, and peddling a message of anti-semitism by portraying him as a "money grubbing" businessman. In addition to suing for $75 million dollars in punitive damages, he insists Eazy-E's portrayal was all wrong.
