Lupe Fiasco took to Twitter Friday (Jan. 8) once again, getting fans riled up as he suggested that once his third 2016 album Roy drops, he will quite possibly retire from music.
In the tweets, Fiasco seems firm that Roy will indeed be his “final and last album,” although he does not specifically say that this will be the end of his music career as NME suggests. Since the rapper is known to make grand claims and have high expectations, some of which he has not followed-through with in the past, this news may be taken lightly.
Late last year, the Chicago rapper announced that he would be releasing three albums in 2016, Drogas, Skulls, and Roy, respectively.
Fiasco released Tetso & Youth last year. In one of his posts last month, the rapper shared that "Mural Jr." is the name of a track slated to appear on the first 2016 album Drogas, which could be a sequel (or prequel) to "Mural" from Tetso & Youth.
He had also previously mentioned that he would be releasing a follow-up to his celebrated album The Cool in winter 2017 on its eight-year anniversary, named The Cool 2. Even though Fiasco had essentially confirmed the 2017 release on Friday, prior to stating that Roy would be the final album, his career status following this year's trio of albums seems unclear at this point.
To date there have not been any official release dates penned, however, stay tuned for updates in regards to when and if these three LPs will hit stores. The rapper will, however, hit the road on his For The Fans tour in 2016 in between album releases.
