On Sunday (Jan. 10), the 73rd Annual Golden Globes took place at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California. The night was filled with gorgeous gowns, stylish men in suits, notable acceptance speeches, and endless laughs. This list highlights the seven funniest moments from the 2016 award show, featuring awkward moments and spoofs from Leonardo DiCaprio, Jamie Foxx, and more.
While 2016 Golden Globes host, Ricky Gervais, supplied the controversial jokes of the night, it was the actors themselves who truly provided the gut-wrenching laughs. From awkward facial reactions and racial jokes to insanely hot co-stars and comedians poking fun at each other, the comical moments were at an all time high last night.
Check out which moments made the list below:
1. Jamie Foxx vs. Straight Outta Compton nominee snub & Steve Harvey's Miss Univese flub
What started off as a simple category presentation, ultimately ended up turning into a hilarious mock of entertainment mishaps. Jamie Foxx hit the stage with Pride and Prejudice and Zombies star Lily James to present the award for Best Original Score in a Motion Picture. The Oscar-winning actor and musician refused to just read what was on the card and walk off.
Instead, Foxx pulled a Steve Harvey at the 2015 Miss Universe pageant by jokingly announcing the wrong winner. Foxx announced Straight Outta Compton as the winner as a way to acknowledge their lack of nominations at the Golden Globes. After doing so, he used Harvey's infamous apology to end his joke. The real winner of the category was Ennio Morricone for The Hateful Eight.
"I'm sorry, folks," Foxx said at the 2016 Golden Globe Awards. "I made a mistake. It's right here on the card. It's right here on the card. I take full responsibility."
2. America Ferrera & Eva Longoria vs. Hollywood racism
So for some strange reason, some people in Hollywood believe all people of color look the same. This time, the focus was on Latinos. Actresses America Ferrera, who is of Honduran descent, and Eva Longoria, who is of Mexican descent, took the stage to present the award for Best Actor in a TV Drama. Before doing so, they threw a little shade at the lack of diversity in Hollywood and at the Golden Globes.
The award show's Twitter account mistakenly referred to Ferrera as Jane the Virgin star Gina Rodriguez when she announced the nominations last month. The women might have thrown subtle shade, but the impact was huge!
3. Lady Gaga's arm vs. Leonardo DiCaprio's arm
Can you say awkward? As Lady Gaga walked through the extremely crowded venue to accept the award for Best Actress in a Limited TV Series or Movie for her work in American Horror Story: Hotel, she accidentally touched Leonardo DiCaprio's back and his reaction was priceless! DiCaprio jumped in his seat and raised his eyebrows as soon as she passed by. The GIF is now a trending image on social media.
DiCaprio provided a very logical explanation as to why he made that face when the musician brushed by him: "I just didn't know what was passing me -- that's all," DiCaprio told ETonline.com.
4. Ryan Gosling vs. Brad Pitt
Fans couldn't handle the sexiness that walked on stage when actors Ryan Gosling and Brad Pitt took over the microphone. Women were literally screaming, "wow!" The two were scheduled to present a clip for their movie The Big Short, but there was some tension in the air. Gosling and Pitt engaged in some charming and fun banter, which included Gosling being extremely upset about announcing the clip with his movie co-star.
The hilarious fake fight only proved how versatile the actors can be.
5. Taraji P. Henson passes out cookies & throws subliminal shade
Actress Taraji P. Henson won her first Golden Globe for her work as Cooke on Empire. After announcing she won the Best Performance by an Actress in a TV Series Drama category, Henson grabbed a handful of cookies from her table and began passing them out as she made her way to the stage. When guest were supplied their baked goods for the night, Henson then delivered an epic acceptance speech full of gratitude and shade.
First she ignored the limited time slot given for speeches: "Wrap it up? What? I’ve been waiting 20 years for this," Henson said at the 2016 Golden Globes. "You’re gonna wait!” The recipient of multiple NAACP Image Awards also thought it was interesting that it took her to play an ex-convict to be officially recognized by her Hollywood peers. Despite generating immense success in 2015 for her role as Cookie Lyon, Henson has been acting since 1997, starring alongside leading men like Brad Pitt, Will Smith, and Idris Elba.
6. Amy Schumer & Jennifer Lawrence being Amy Schumer & Jennifer Lawrence
These two don't need much of an explanation. Their friendship formed overnight and Hollywood couldn't be happier. Amy Schumer and Jennifer Lawrence are both young blunt women who know how to bring the laughter to any room. Before introducing clips for their films Trainwreck and Joy, the ladies tried to figure out cute celebrity couple nicknames, executed their best catwalk on stage, and awkwardly rambled on and on.
7. Jim Carrey & his beard vs. the Golden Globes
Funny man Jim Carrey made his first television appearance since his girlfriend Cathriona White's death in September. He presented the award for Best Motion Picture in a Musical or Comedy, but decided to ignore what was on the teleprompter and do his own thing. Carrey's two-minute bit had the audience cracking up as he reminded everyone that he was a two-time Golden Globe winner.
