Anberlin releases new single 'Stranger Ways', announces final record

Following a stellar 12-year career and six studio albums, Anberlin has decided to call it quits, with their upcoming album Lowborn being the last.

As unfortunate as it is, the band plans to go out with style and end it all where it began. 'Lowborn' brings the group back to their roots, being released through Tooth & Nail Records. The label is the very same one to release Anberlin's debut album Blueprints for the Black Market back in 2003.

The album isn't set to drop until June 23 but the band has just released their first single off Lowborn entitled 'Stranger Ways.' Listen to the exclusive premiere here.

In going about recording their final farewell, the band did something truly unique. Each member— Christian McAlhaney, Stephen Christian, Joseph Milligan, Devon Rexroat, and Nathan Young—chose their own producer and recorded their part separate rather than as a band. One of the producers invited in was Aaron Sprinkle, who is famed for recording Anberlin's first album. Sprinkle recorded vocals on Lowborn and expressed his feelings to Christian, who told Billboard the producer was "so upset when he heard 'Stranger Ways.' He told me that he should have done the entire record just because he loved this particular song so much."

The hope for 'Stranger Ways' is that the band will leave behind the very same feel and energy they were going for in their younger days. And while the single appears "somber," as Christian puts it, he's assured fans that the rest of Lowborn is "eclectic and chaotic, just like a good Anberlin record should be."
