After releasing two singles and a Lena Dunham-directed music video for "I Wanna Get Better," Jack Antonoff's Bleachers has announced a title and release date for its first full-length studio album... and took to Craigslist to do so.
In a post on New Jersey's musicians community board titled "Artist seeking 'Strange Desire,'" Antonoff revealed that Bleachers album is titled, well, Strange Desire and will be released on July 15.
Antonoff went into great detail about the personal significance not just of the album itself but also its title in his Craigslist ad.
"'strange desire' is something that came to me a few weeks ago when i was working on the last song i wrote for the bleachers album. the lyric is, "feeling like i never was young i followed a dream and a strange desire". it was just something that came out in a scratch vocal take off the top of my head and i didn't realize how important it was in that moment," he wrote. "that line speaks to my entire life over the past 14 years of writing and being on tour. i do feel like I'm constantly mourning a childhood i never had. mostly because i dealt with a lot of loss in the most formative years of my life."
He then went on to describe how Strange Desire is a reflection of his life thus far, at least from his own perspective. He admitted the album is completed and that the next "phase" is giving it to the public, hence the July 15 release date.
Best known for being 1/3 of alternative pop band fun., Antonoff's side project Bleachers has thus far released two singles, the electrifyingly powerful indie pop bites "I Wanna Get Better" and "Shadow."
