Many know Tim Roth from his legendary roles in the films of Quentin Tarantino. He has portrayed a seriously injured bank robber and undercover cop in Reservoir Dogs, an Australian stick up artist in Pulp Fiction, and most recently, a mysterious international criminal in The Hateful Eight. The actor's career has spanned over thirty years, and has allowed the English-born performer to display his talents in a wide variety of roles. Among these characters include "Stretch" Rawland in the crime-comedy film Gridlock'd. Also in the film was rapper Tupac Shakur, with whom Roth apparently bonded on set. Tupac allegedly took Roth and costar Thandie Newton to his workplace. Little did the two actors know what was coming next. According to Roth's recollection on The Late Late Show with James Corden, the two rapped together in a studio owned by the notorious label Death Row Records.
Roth apparently felt quite out of place in the presence of the legendary, and notorious, rappers. A "little pasty-faced London boy walking into Death Row Records was," he says, "well, people were just laughing at me." This is somewhat understandable given the enormous talent looking over Roth's shoulder as he freestyled.
He continued, "We all rapped together, but I couldn't keep a straight face. I didn't write a thing. He just made me say stuff."
The anecdote is a stark reminder of Tupac's indelible artistry and inclusive attitude. Tupac's legacy has inspired rappers, and humans everywhere to understand the society they live in and pay attention to injustices that occur every day.
It was recently announced that both Suge Knight and Jada Pinkett Smith's roles have been cast in the upcoming Tupac Shakur biopic All Eyez on Me, to be filmed in Atlanta, Georgia.
Regarding the material recorded on that day in 1997, Roth says, "I don't know, but it's in a vault somewhere."
