Will Ferrell / Chad Smith drum-off gets a date and venue on 'The Tonight Show'

For those eagerly awaiting that Will Ferrell / Chad Smith drum battle, it appears it's time to place your bets because the comedian and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer will go drumstick to drumstick on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on May 22.

You might remember word of the bout spreading just a few months back after Ferrell took to Reddit for an Ask Me Anything confessing similar looks between the two, stating, "It has been acknowledged many times that myself and Chad Smith, drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, share a resemblance to each other. A lot of people think that it's me playing for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. But that would be an insult to Chad Smith. The truth of the matter is there is no Will Ferrell. Only Chad Smith."

As a result, the drummer challenged his lookalike to a drum-off, to which Ferrell happily accepted on the condition that it be for charity.

While the two have certainly exchanged an incredible amount of trash talk over the past few months as a result of the AMA, their time at The Tonight Show will be their first public appearance together. Though it's been said they have met at least once before.

As of now, the battle has raised more than $300,000 for the charity Cancer for College, with more coming in as the date for the drum-off nears and anticipation soars.

Check out the initial exchange between the two below:

So, will the master of the cowbell beat out the master of the drums? Who will win the golden cowbell? We'll have to wait and see!
