Fans and musicians alike went into an immediate state of shock upon learning of David Bowie's death. Endless tributes have been made in honor of the irreplaceable singer and actor in the form of social media posts, essays and songs. Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea, however, decided to make his tribute a bit more permanent with a bold new tattoo that simply reads "Bowie."
The "Otherside" musician's Bowie surname tattoo, which contains his signature flash logo, is the latest addition to his permanent musical tributes, joining a Jimi Hendrix portrait near the top of his left arm, NME notes.
Flea uploaded a video of his freshly inked honor to social media with a caption that drew lyrics from Bowies' "Changes," reading "And these children that you spit on as they try to change their worlds." The post had already garnered over 18,500 likes and showcases a smiling Flea as Bowie's 1971 Hunky Dory album track "Fill Your Heart" plays in the background.
Before adding the tattoo to his collection, the Blood Sex Sugar Magik bassist took to Twitter to express his utter heartbreak over the "Space Oddity" singer's death, further explaining how he's been on a Bowie binge lately. "oh no. my hero. bowie. the most beautiful. i love him with everything I am. rock music is over, done. he was the best. none came close. rip," he wrote. Hours prior to his string of tweets, the Chili Pepper counterpart posted a jolly snapshot of himself, lead singer Anthony Kiedis and Bowie alongside one another--time, date and location all unknown. The Australian native remains heartbroken like much of the world after the Jan. 10 death of the music pioneer. "David Bowie is my favorite rock musician of all time," Flea wrote of the glam rock star who died of cancer.
