After teasing fans with the idea of an all new studio album to accompany their final tour, rock and roll giants Black Sabbath quickly scrapped the alleged 21st LP and decided to place all their focus on an unforgettable The End tour. Wednesday, January 20 brought the launch of the farewell gigs in Omaha, Nebraska where the iconic musicians delivered a 14-song setlist made up of popular Sabbath staples.
Founding bandmates Ozzy Osbourne, Geezer Butler and Tony Iommi saw on stage assistance from Tommy Clufetos, who spent time with the band while filling in for drummer Bill Ward following Sabbath's harsh split and 2012-2014 reunion tour, Ultimateclassicrock notes.
The inaugural gig came with a treat--a heavy bass rendition of the 1970 Paranoid track, "Hand of Doom," which was performed for the very first time in around 40 years. The night's setlist incorporated hit after hit such as opener, "Black Sabbath," "Children of the Grave" and fan-favorite track, "War Pigs." The End showed no signs of featuring music from the group's latest album, 13, unlike their last tour, which saw an overwhelming amount of the album's tracks. Songs from The End were scarce as well however, the album made up of unreleased studio tracks from the 13 sessions and four live gigs will be made available for purchase during any show of The End tour.
The End will make its way throughout North America, ending on September 21 in Arizona.
