Zayn Malik is set to have his first solo TV interview since quitting One Direction on The Graham Norton Show at the end of the month. Malik will not be singing during the show segment, and will keep his appearance on the TV show strictly informational. Laura Mvula will be the resident performer on the episode, which will also include guests Will Smith, Ryan Reynolds, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Toby Jones.
Malik’s episode is slated to air on Jan. 29 on BBC One station as reported by NME.
The former One Direction singer had a widely publicized split from his former band One Direction in March of 2015. The band is now currently on an indefinite hiatus from the music industry, and Malik is gunning for a solo career.
Malik recently opened up about reported tensions between himself and his former bandmates Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan. When he initially left the band last March, he had originally promised that the five would remain “friends for life,” but as of now that doesn't seem to be the case, as the singer alluded that he no longer has “certain phone numbers” to Billboard.
“The truth of it is, you can think one thing about a situation and the total opposite can happen. I had every intention of remaining friends with everybody, but I guess certain phone numbers have changed and I haven’t received calls from a lot of people,” he said to the publication. “I’ve reached out to a few of them and not got a reply. Certain people have pride issues, but it’s stuff you overcome in time.”
Malik has opened up in the past about the differences between he and his former One Direction bandmates musical tastes, he is a big R&B fan while the rest of One Direction gravitated towards indie rock. He also admitted to not being a fan of “Perfect,” although he did enjoy the lead single from Made in the A.M., “Drag Me Down.”
