Jagged Edge group member Kyle Norman wants his wife and his wife's family to know he's sorry for the assault that took place in 2015 when he attacked and left his wife with a black eye and other injuries. He and his wife, Marikka Norman, were recently guests on The Steve Harvey Show, where he opened up and talked about the assault.
Norman, a member of the 90s R&B group that released hit singles like, "Let's Get Married," "He Can't Love You" and "I Gotta Be," was arrested on aggravated assault charges back in January of 2015 for reportedly choking his then fiancee, Marikka Norman, blacking her eye and attempting to shove her engagement ring down her throat.
The assault made headlines and Marikka had to endure several surgeries to regain her strength and overall health but that didn't stop the couple from working things out and still going forward with their marriage. The two wed at the Suite Food Lounge in ATL, with a intimate and private dinner, including close family and friends.
In May, only a few months after the brutal attack, Marikka said she is confident that an altercation like the January one will never happen again, and she truly believes that Kyle loves her and is genuine with his apology, giving all the credit to her belief in God for keeping them together. "Crediting my deep prayers and talks with God, my deep love for Kyle and conviction that Kyle really does love me and has vowed not to place his hands on me ever again," Marikka explained of their rekindled relationship to Rolling Out. "I am not listening to the naysayers who keep trying to say he doesn't love me and encourage me to leave."
Those "naysayers" are more than likely the family members and friends of Marikka, who she spoke about during her interview with Harvey on his talk show. During the interview she stated how she lost so much because of the incident and how some of her family, specifically her father, are refusing to talk to her because she took Norman back.
"This cost me a lot," she explained to Harvey. "It cost me my career. It cost me relationships with my family, close friends, of course my father." Marikka tearfully explained how once her father found out what happened to her, he just couldn't accept Kyle, nor their relationship any longer. Marikka confessed to also hiding the fact that she and Kyle were still together despite telling everyone that she would never take him back.
During the interview, Marikka displayed confidence in her husband, saying that the person Kyle became the night of the assault was a not the person she had been in a relationship with for years. Kyle himself admitted that he was a "monster" that night.
"The monster that night? You will never see him," Kyle promised to his wife and her former foster daughter. He vowed to be the best father and husband that he can be going forward, and he continues to pray to be a better version of himself.
He also extended a message to his fans. "I'm Kyle, Kyle made a mistake," he tearfully confessed during the show. "But I gotta continue to be a better person. We all seem to fall short of the glory of God. You know...I'm human."
Marikka and Kyle have both used their circumstances to help others in the domestic violence situations by counseling couples who are dealing with the same issues, and Marikka is in the process of writing a book for battered women.
