As previously reported, Paul McCartney had to cancel his entire Japan Out There tour due to an illness. Now that illness has reportedly landed him in the hospital. According to USA Today (via Consequence of Sound) the 71-year-old former Beatle is suffering from an undisclosed viral infection.
As CoS points out, a separate and as-yet-unconfirmed report from a Japanese newspaper says that McCartney was admitted to the hospital after his condition worsened. They say that fans are gathering outside the hospital to show their support.
On Tuesday, doctors had ordered McCartney to rest up. McCartney's spokesperson Perri Cohen said he "is still not feeling better and this cancellation is unavoidable. He was hoping to be better, but the doctors have ordered him complete rest. Paul has been extremely moved by the messages from his fans and is upset to be letting them down."
McCartney issued his own statement yesterday following the cancellation of his Seoul show saying, "I was really looking forward to visiting and playing in South Korea for the first time and I'm sorry to be letting fans down. I'm very disappointed by this and hope to be able to visit soon."
According to USA Today, McCartney's spokesperson has refused to comment or confirm the hospitalization.
The story is still developing. Stay tuned for more details.
