If you don't remember Jay Z's cologne that was released with Barneys three years ago called GOLD JAY Z, you might agree with a lawsuit claiming that Mr. Beyoncé did not promote the product enough. The company that produced the fragrance, Perfumania Holdings Inc., is allegedly suing Jay Z, real name Shawn Carter, for $18 million due to a huge drop in product revenue last year.

The fragrance company was expecting revenue of about $35 million in 2015 for the scent after it was named the bestselling celebrity fragrance for 2014. Only $6 million was made, which has spurred on this lawsuit, according to The Smoking Section.
Apparently, Jay Z was not into the idea of promoting this fragrance. According to the lawsuit (via Page Six), the company claims that the hip-hop icon refused to promote the product on Good Morning America, didn't pose for a Women's Wear Daily magazine cover shoot with the fragrance, and "rejected five prototypes for an 18-carat gold capped bottle designed by Jacob the Jeweler for a customer contests." Also, the company says that they couldn't get in contact with Jay in 2014 for about five months. Perfumania was looking into spin-off scent ideas at this time.
"Sales of Gold Jay Z have declined considerably because of Jay Z's and his team's lack of interest in supporting and promoting his own brand," the lawsuit claims, adding that the rapper's actions, or lack thereof, hindered the success of "the emerging brand... while collecting a handsome guaranteed minimum royalty as well as Perfumania common stock."
This really sounds ugly, but we're not sure how much of this we should believe. Page Six is known for rumors and gossip, so until Jay Z comments on this lawsuit, we're not ready to accept these claims.
