The pieces of Lana Del Rey's new album Ultraviolence just keep coming together. Recently, the "West Coast" songstress has given her Born To Die follow-up an official cover, release date, lead single/music video and new song "Shades Of Cool." But now, after a gig at Kanye West and Kim Kardashian's lavish Italian wedding, Del Rey unveiled another new song live: the title track "Ultraviolence."
Last night (May 25) in Vancouver, Del Rey performed "Ultraviolence" for the very first time, and video of the song has surfaced online.
In front of a setting with a throne and multiple antlered animals, Del Rey performed the dreamlike song, which features the backing of a haunting, steady piano chord and orchestral strings, which ebb and flow with the singsong melody.
The video of the live performance features relatively low quality audio, which makes deciphering the lyrics a heavy task. However, "Ultraviolence" features a key line of the popular music trope "He hit me and it felt like a kiss," so the song seems to take on the dangerous intersection of love and violence, which is no real surprise coming from Del Rey.
